Are you looking for a fun way to reuse wrapping paper? Try this adorable activity this Christmas (or after a birthday party)! Save your wrapping paper after opening gifts and reuse it in this fine motor activity that kids will love. It’s the perfect boredom buster for winter break and a great way to work on scissor skills!
We attended our first Christmas party last night and there was a sea of wrapping paper left on the ground after we opened gifts. It’s such a shame to quickly throw it away without reusing it in someway. I thought of this fun way to reuse wrapping paper with this cute “haircut” activity!
These are simple to make and you can make a few at a time! Once you are finished, you can take the wrapping paper off and put more double sided tape on the cardboard face.
Here’s what you’ll need…
Supplies:
- Double sided tape
- Cardboard
- Wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, or any other decorative pieces used to wrap gifts
- Marker
- Scissors

Here’s What We Did:
Step 1:
Make your cardboard faces. I traced bowls on cardboard, cut them out, and drew simple faces on them.
Step 2:
Put a couple pieces of double sided tape on the foreheads of your cardboard faces. You could try regular tape if you don’t have double sided tape. The wrapping paper might move around a bit, but it would probably work.
Step 3:
Make some long, spiky hairdos for your cardboard faces. You can cut long strips for snipping, keep the paper in large chunks or add bangs.
You can also draw lines on the wrapping paper to serve as a cutting guide or let kids go wild and make up their own hairdos.
If you have any bows or ribbon, add them to the forehead! These accents look pretty adorable and make this activity that much more inviting for young kids. My boys loved those little details and thought they were pretty funny!
My four year old went right for the bangs. I cut little strips for him to snip off. He was a little unsure of how to hold the scissors when he first started this activity.
He loved seeing the eyes peek through after he cut the bangs!
Then he moved on to another hairdo and ended up cutting the paper all the way down to the cardboard! My boys both told me this was such a fun way to reuse wrapping paper!
He thought the ponytail was pretty funny! By the time he got to the last hairdo, we was a pro at using the scissors. He was holding them properly and had so much fun in the process!
Save it for later and Pin it!
I hope you give this simple fine motor activity a try! I promise, your little nature lovers will love it as much as my boys.
