Supplies:
- Dried Lavender
- Glue
- Cardboard- Try to find cardboard to repurpose, but try these sheets if you don’t have any.
- Heart shaped cookie cutter to trace
- Exacto knife– These are very sharp and for adult use only! Cardboard is difficult to cut with regular scissors, so I highly recommend getting an exacto knife.

Here’s How We Made This DIY Heart Garland:
Step 1:
Trace and cut out heart shapes on a piece of cardboard. I traced a heart shaped cookie cutter, but you can make your own shape if you don’t have any cookie cutters.
Step 2:
We made two different types of hearts. The first kind had lavender sprinkled on the outside of the hearts. To make these, put glue on the outside edges of the heart. We made wheat paste glue for this craft, but you can use regular glue if you would like! Either option will work well for this garland.
If you would like to make compostable wheat paste glue, mix 4 parts water to 1 part flour. Whisk constantly to prevent chunks from forming. Heat to just below a boil until it has reached the desired consistently. Just add a little more water if the paste gets too thick. Cover and store extra glue in the refrigerator for about 7 days and on the countertop for about 2 days. For crafts, I typically mix 1/4 cup wheat with 1 cup water. This makes a lot and you will have some left over.
Step 3:
Sprinkle lavender on the glue. Gently shake off any excess lavender from the heart.
We also made hearts completely covered with lavender! To make these, cover the entire heart with glue.
Sprinkle lavender on the glue and gently pat the pieces down on the heart. Again, shake off the excess lavender.
Step 4:
Let your hearts completely dry. Attach the hearts to string with tape and hang in your home! They look so pretty and make the room smell amazing!
You could also keep the hearts loose and write a Valentine message on the center of the hearts. These would make cute handmade Valentines!

I hope you give this DIY heart garland a try! I promise, your little nature lovers will love it as much as my boys.
