I have quite a few holiday nature crafts coming your way over the next few weeks! Today, I’m sharing with you a simple candy cane craft that will definitely find it’s way onto your list of most loved crafts.
Supplies:
- Sticks- Pick sticks that have freshly fallen and make sure they are dry. You don’t want sticks that have a lot of little pieces flaking off or the wood will peel off (along with the white paint) when you take the painter’s tape off.
- Paintbrushes
- Paint- Red, White and Silver
- Painter’s Tape

How to Make the Candy Cane Craft:
These are really easy to make! Just follow these steps..
Step 1:
Paint the sticks white and let them dry.
Step 2:
Wrap painters tape around the dried sticks. It’s important to use painter’s tape because it won’t strip off the white paint after you peel it off. Make sure you press the tape firmly to avoid the red paint from bleeding onto the white paint.
I had to cut the tape in half to make it thinner.
Step 3:
Paint the sticks red. We painted over the tape to make it easier!
Step 4:
Peel the tape off to reveal the white paint underneath. You don’t need to wait for the red paint to dry for this step. It can still be wet.
This part was really fun and my boys thought this process was pretty magical!
As you can see, a tiny bit of red paint might bleed through if you don’t press the tape hard enough against the stick. You can touch it up after the red paint dries or just let it be. We decided to keep the tiny imperfections. You don’t even notice them once they are in a vase!
We also made icicle sticks! We added some silver to the tips of a couple of white sticks.
The icicles and red sticks were nice accent pieces in the bouquet!
These is candy cane craft a great handmade gift for a family member this holiday season! Just wrap the bunch in twine, place them in some tissue paper and you have an adorable and memorable gift!
Or you can save them for your own family and set them up as a decoration! Either way, these are a must try holiday craft and so fun to make:)
Save it for later and Pin it!
I hope you give this candy cane craft a try! I promise, your little nature lovers will love it as much as my boys.
